  • [--New Features--]
  • Shadow Monsters - A dark shadowlike energy is beginning to sweep the land for some unknown reason. It even seems to be affecting the monsters of this world in a strange way. It is said those with great fame are known to kill these beasts and with the shadow seems to be a return of the mysterious blackrock ore. No one quite knows what's going on!
  • Orbs Recharge Weapons - Many have seem orbs of ice, water, wind, earth and fire but never knew their purpose until now. With the creeping shadow the orbs now contain magical properties alchemists say can be used to recharge the spells on magical weapons. Unfortunately they using unstable energy and could destroy the weapon entirely. The mages council advises the population that this is a rarity and should not be worried over too much.
  • Orb Puzzles - Throughout the world there are 5 puzzle shrines of: ice, water, wind, earth and fire. It is said that if one is able to vanquish all monster and solve the puzzle they will gain a magical orb. Many are baffled because the puzzle shrines seem to magically move from time to time making them hard to predict and track down
  • Rare Weapon Power - Warriors throughout the realm have made mention that magical weapons holding charges won't always recharge from magical orbs. Apparently they need to be used considerably in battle between recharges.
  • Magical Rare Bows - Archery weapons now have the same possibility of being a rare magical item just like sword and other weapons. There is said to be over 60+ new bows that can be found.
  • Parry Spells - Warriors now have a small chance of parrying offensive spells depending on their skill.
  • Melting Armors - The shadow of the land has seemed to also increase the effects of spells on various items in the world. Most noticeably is the observations that armor tends to melt and wear under extreme heat, cold and other spell effects.
  • Young Player Status - New players are granted 14 days of protection from the affects of death. When killed they are immediately teleported back to the newbie town of Cove. Murderous newbies will however lose this grace after their first player kill. You can tell a player is young by their white backpack in their paperdoll.
  • Newbie Area Created - The entire area of cove has been revamped specifically to cater to the new player. Inside the walls of the city is everything a player would need starting off the game. Additionally they have access to a mining tunnel that connects Cove to the Newbie Fort. All new players are allowed passage throughout cove until their 22nd year of age (2 months time)
  • Blackrock Ore - Blackrock ore can be found off the shadow creatures. Blacksmiths can use this to create Black Rock Armor one of the rarest armors in Obsidian. This new blackrock offers more protection then rose armor or the old blackrock, and additionally boasts twice as much durability meaning it won't break so easily!

    [--Balancing Changes--]
  • Macefighting Revamped - All mace weapons have been improved, mostly in speed, additionally the war axe is considered a macing weapon.
  • Bows use Anatomy - The archery skill now takes into account your anatomy just like all the other weapon skills when applying damage
  • GM Friendly Fields - The fire field and poison field spells no longer affect staff. (You may stop laughing now)
  • Newbie Equipment - New players now start out with a bunch of healing and nightsight potions to get them on their way.
  • Races Balanced - To prepare for all the new players we have been receiving we took some time to rebalance the races. The restrictions and starting skills were tweaked to make things more obvious for starting players.

    [--Bug Fixes--]
  • Durable Weapons - There is now an 11% chance that a magical weapon will be durable. This property means it can take more wear and tear before breaking. Very useful for those very rare weapons!
  • Magical Rare Weapons Fixed - Auto cure, auto armor, auto heal, auto med and auto sight all now work properly when equipped. Additionally the broken magic arrow weapon has been replaced with summon water elemental. Consider your old magic arrow weapons rare as they will no longer spawn in the world. Finally the amount of charges weapons can hold have been considerabily increased.
  • Server Status Page - Characters' ages are now properly listed on the status page of the website again. Additionally The amount of time the server has been running from last reboot is now properly displayed.
  • Criminals and Jail - Players now properly lose their criminal status when they leave jail. This will prevent people being rejailed immediately.
  • Guards Fixed - The old guards have been fixed and additionally we have added a second type as well. These guards react in completely different ways which should make criminals easier to detect and prosecute.
  • New Characters - New characters now have appropiate beginning stats based off their race.

Good job guys, to all the ppl who helped with this, i'm sure all of us vets and all of the new ppl will enjoy this and lets make it last.....i know we can, :D

i just want to thank bb, jorus and the rest of staff for working their butts off to bring OBS back up.. also i want to thank all players who have dedicated their time to obs and never gave up... we are looking forward to a new beggining and to all the newbies... WELCOME TO OBSIDIAN! :lol: :lol:

Sounds awesome. I just started playing and this patch sounds like it has some great new things.
