i was on the game today, or recently as i post this, and when i tried to log into my
other character the screen seemed to crash and not load fully. when i closed the
program and re-opened it, it would allow me to place my password, but a window
constantly pops-up stating that "someone is already using the account"

idk why this is happening, but it has been doing this for the past 20min...and i can not
for the love of god figure out why

can someone please tell me why this is happening?

and if possible, can someone explain why this would be occuring?

sometimes theres latency probs with obsi, where it still thinks your logged in,
try closing the program and DONT log in for the next 20 mins, even tho I have never witnessed lag longer then 5 mintutes of logging out time,

also, you might have a old hung up process on your computer
press ctrl alt delete, and look for obsidian's process under processes, if you find 1 or 2 from obsidian and you don't have your obsidian window up, this is the problem,
end the processes wait 5 mins (just to be safe) then try logging in again...

I am not an expert unto how obsidian and it's client works but if I had to guess this would be my best one

thanks for the help. although the problem has subsided....i think it simply was the lag
that i timed out by. it sucks sometimes when 2 other ppl in the house are also trying to
use the same internet connection to either go on the internet, or play XBox live

o well, im able to play again just fine....thanks tho chips

if i remember correctly.....this used to be a biiiig problem years ago (and on quite a few different shard i played on). and as far as i know....you cant have 2 copies of obsidian running at the same time. some awesome coding blocks the second client from launching....so i dont think a hung process would be the culprit but i do give you props chips;]

however if that lag was really 20 minutes....it should really be addressed:(
there are 4 options to fix this off the top of my head:
1: lower the timeout rate serverside
2: enable the ability to "kick" off the logged on account when its logged onto a second time
3: some sort of web form that interacts with the server (like the server status does) that allows you to kick the "ghost". some free WoW servers have this on their webpages because of horrible servers. (obsidian does not fall under that category)
4: something everyone will hate.....auto-kick afk after a certain amount of time.

im pretty sure most people would like option 1 the best....followed by 2+3.
