I class ganks more of bullies than pk's. Anyone can team up and beat down on a single fellow. It takes skill and wit to win a 1vs 1 fight.

In my book though, the real skill isn't just 1v1, its 1v2
And its rubbish to say that a warrior can only take 1v1 - I am 100% sure that I could have take two of you with relative ease, Rippa. It is playing vs people like Ashes, Middy and Elleb that I would get the true test 1v1. 1v1 PvPers of this calibre are few and far between, which Is why I used to go looking to get ganked
The current standard of pvp on the shard is quite poor as a whole at the moment (NOT everyone).
When I started, MoB were in full swing, and lots of vets still played. Now, most of the good mages and warriors don't play any more, save for a few select individuals whom I have respect for in pvp - you know who you are.
