As I said, being a mage/warrior will require all of Your skill points diverted
to fighting skills, and I wasn't kidding. :)

First of all, if You didn't know humans have a total skill cap of ~680 (most
usual is ~675), races ~760 (usually ~755) in usable skills.

Currently it seems that Animal Lore does nothing to influence Taming, so
You could get away without it atm.

Training any fighting skill (wrestling, mace fighting, swordsmanship,
fencing) will auto train Your Tactics skill, so You'll need space for that
anyway. And Wrestling is only viable on a pollyed char (pollymorph spell).
But once You polly You can't wear anything (except on orc and ratman
forms, which aren't any good against tough monsters anyway), meaning
You can't use Meditation. And Eval Int is mostly there for You to meditate
successfully (might also be helping with some spell durations, but haven't
really tested that.. someone clear it up). Also if You're making a polly
mage You'll need a Healing skill, not to use reagents and mana, which
You won't be able to replenish fast in polly mode.

Now, if You were thinking of going as a pure mage, relying only on Your
dmg spells. That would only work on other players, as killing monsters
with dmg spells is simply a waste of reagents. Summoning spell works,
but you only get good bears at 75% and 80% magery skill, and it has like
15 seconds delay between casting.

Plus, Your PvP Mage build would require as high as possible poisoning skill..

So, for a PvP/PvM mage I'd suggest going for magery, meditation, eval
int, resistance, healing, tactics, wrestling, all left to poisoning and choosing
a Warlock pure mage, ofc. And as You can see no space left for Taming. :(

OTOH, if You want animals (mainly grizzly bears) to help You out, You can
always tame them with Your tamer and (shrink) transfer them to Your mage.

Thanks for the great advice! I think I'm just going to go with a Warrior build for now. Playing a Mage of any type is a bit confusing right now, and a Warrior doesn't doesn't seem like it lol.

here u go bud do this.. make u a warrior as ur first char.. and while u are training warrior.. train u a tamer at same time...

to GM magery here on this shard is a dificult feat to do because of the enormous amount of regs it will require

here imm agive u the basic build for a Vampire warrior

*Anatomy - 100 GM - a boring macroed skill.. but the more of it the more dmg u do and more u heal
*Healing - 100 GM
*Parrying (use of shield) - 100 GM
*Wepon Class - 100 GM - Mace, Swords, Fencing (pick only one.. id go with swords or mace.. fencing can be ok.. but only if u obtain the mightyest of wepons out there.. adn very rare )
*Tactics - 100 GM - you will eventually gm this after usign ur wepon enuff it auto gains as u fight
*Resisting Spells - 100 GM - This one will take u a while
*Archery - 100 GM - this is an esential as much as your main wepon type.. u will use archery alot
*Poisoning - ## whats left on ur skill keep it 30-50 in skill that way u can atleast toss normals without fails

STATS
a few choices here

160 Str 120 Dex and keep int below 10
170 Str 110 Dex and keep int below 10
180 Str 100 Dex and keep int below 10

or some variaton in there
things to remember
dex gives shorter time on heal delays... 100 is a jump.. and 120 is..
str makes u take less dmg and deal more 100 is boost 130 is boost 150 is boost and 170 is boost

so as u can see
u cant get the strongest str boost and healing speed.. u have to to coose one over the other

umm count your mistaken about fencing... gm kryss's are like really strong and cheap so a new player can have the same effect as say a vanq while hunting or even pvp... plus if enchants are back and enchanted kryss is godley and will whoop anyone as long as the person using it is good so... i use fencing because its a fun wepon type to use... its fast and it gets the job done on most things... so dont listen to count about fencing :P

Obs is different to other shards. mainly because its just simly better thought out.
You havent got to be a warrior or a mage as other shards enforce. Obs has a unique trade system allowing you to happily enjoy combat free life if you choose to. or plenty of fighting if thats your thing.

you cannot have 180 str and 100 dex. the legal stat limit in one stat is 176. so the max str would be 176 dex 104 and int below 10

Any kind of magic krysses suck (except the VERY best magic ones), so if you decide on taking fencing, use GM krysses, Enchanted krysses (if they ever come back  ), magic war forks, and higher end magic short spears if your desperate. Long spears don’t do shit to anything, and daggers break after 2 hits. Be warned, the only thing that a fencer has that can break through a mages Reactive Armor consistently is his enchants and the occasional great magic war fork. Gm krysses will most likely hurt you more then the mage you are fighting if the mage has RA on.

You should probably make yourself a crafter. Fisherman or blacksmith will make you the most money. Fishing will make the most money, but a smith is more interesting. I have both a BS and fisherman, and I would suggest a blacksmith. The amount of money a BS can make is substantial, and you'll only fall asleep at your computer 1/2 as much as you would if you were fishing.

I have never really played a mage. Everything that I have done in the last few years on Obsidian was done to complement my warrior. I can't give you any tips on making a mage, but I can tell you that a mage is more effective in combat sooner then a warrior is (unless you train far more then average).

i had a topic in "help and support". staff replyed there and clearly stated that 178 is the stat limit in any stat. it's because of this situation:

180 str + bless + worldsave = -100 to str.

maybe a staff member would reply to this thread also?
