OK guys, heres how it is.
Some of you may not know me, I'm just coming back after getting my PC sorted - but those of you who do know me will know that:
a) I'm a chilled guy so I don't get annoyed lightly
b) When I do get annoyed, you better not be the reason
Right, it has been brought to my attention recently that players INGAME have been discussing which player is a staff member etc, or publically addressing them by the wrong name.
If you know (or think you know) who a staff member's player account is - I don't really care - that is bad enough, just keep it to yourself. You MUST NOT discuss this with any other player; either ingame, in the IRC chat room, or on the forums.
If I see ANY player
a) Discussing staff identities on the forum, on IRC, or ingame
b) Calling a player by their staff name
c) Calling a staff member by their player name
Then (unless they have a reasonable reason for doing so e.g. slip of the tongue) then I will jail them INSTANTLY.
This is very important. In order for staff members to function in an impartial manner, it is essential that their player identities and staff identities are kept separate. It is not just a matter of opinion - this is decreed by Broadband (our shard owner and administrator) in the staff rules.
I trust that all of you can see the wisdom in this, and will abide by this in future.
Thanks.

I think its better if you know who the player is, that way u can bitch slap their player when they get stupid with their staff accounts.. jajaja.. oh and another thing.. i dont know why the vast majority of the staff members now are chaos aligned with their chars. I know they are impartial and shit but it still doesnt look right.
I really always thought that staff members should never have normal chars, but thats never gona happen.

Just because you think the worlds against you Gala, doesn't mean it is. Wether I'm chaos or order aligned. I deal with people the same. You break a rule you get jailed, simple as that.
I don't go out of my way looking for reason's to jail people, there are more than enough people who are willing to SHOW me a reason to jail them

I've seen staff call players by there staff name u gona jail them ?? I will speculate all i want and so will everone, It's a human thing, and btw you didnt hide your identity ingame or irc. one other think, I go by the rules but I dont like been talked down to or threatened, and thats the way you come across,a lesson in diplomacy wouldnt go a miss. A simple "New rules guys pls read" would have done.

Regardless of how Thass' player came to be known Excalibur. To help staff do their job, and not be accused of "cheating" or "favoritism" it's better if the staff are just left unnamed. The player character of any staff, is really beside the point, and I feel it doesn't need to be brought up at any time.
Speculate all you want. Just remember there's a huge difference between speculating, and accusing people of stuff, which is what Thass was addressing.

This is no new rule.. Staff and their players were always meant to be kept seperate.

The fact is, if a staff member didnt tell any person they were staff no one would know. But they do tell people be it a close friend or whatever then that person tells his friend "Dont say anything but" and so on. Could ANY staff member come on this thread and say they havnt told anyone related to obs that they are staff ?? I very much doubt they can...

I agree with excalibur this post wont change anything, and some of the "new" staff members are a little arrogant when they try to get their points across. But w/e if your staff is either cuz you like to help ppl out or because you like to boss ppl around, so your gona have some arrogant ones here and there. and about being accused of cheating or taking sides, thats always going to happen, and sometimes the accusations are true too.

With all respect Excalibur, I have tried being diplomatic enough times and now I must simply be sincere. It gets to the stage where simple rules are repeatedly broken and something needs to be said.
All that the staff ask for in return for all our hard work, is that you respect eacch other, respect the rules, respect the staff, and you respect the hard work that has been put in to create an enjoyable game for you to play.
It is not for me to question how important it may be (or may not be) that staff identities are kept secret - that is the way that BB wants it, so that is how it should be.
I apologise if my frustrations came through in an overly stern post, but I am merely getting a little frustrated that long-term players are routinely breaking rules that used to be enforced strongly. If staff members are breaking this ingame for players to see, then of course that is a very bad example and should not be happening.
I did not say that 'I will jail you for a week'... again most players should know that I would move you to jail as a warning to discuss the issue on a first offense. I do not jail players for the sake of it.
More to the point - if this post does not apply to you, then there is no problem here. If it does, then I stand by the above - do not discuss staff identities, period.
PS. And as for my player identity, I gave up trying to hide it when some moron posted it on the forum in massive text. That player was forum banned.
It is also one of the major reasons why I gave up my warrior - and anyone who knew how much i loved PvP would know that was a hard decision.
