Glad to be part of this shard, i played OSI uo for 7ish years and am happy to see a well run shard here!


What are the peak times to play? How many people are on tops at a time?

Whats the low down on popular spots to hang out with people?

Is skill advancement SLOW on here or is it like OSI? How would you say it compares?

im looking to play and interact and pvp and such with people. A few other places i tried had like 4 people on avg id say and tops 30 as an all time high, heh.

I need my UO fix, i still crave this forsaken game hahaha!

Well, if you're looking for a "Power shard" you're definately in the wrong place. We may not have "alot" of people (50 or so at peaks, 30 or so average) It's still EASILY the best shard out there.

I've played basically every shard on UOGateway, and they're all shit compared to this one.

Skill gain isn't fast by any means, but it's not DEAD slow. It takes abit of time to accomplish your skills, but when you do, it's WELL worth it.

If you want PVP and to interact with people, this is definately the right shard for you. I'm a PK and a PVP fanatic.. so yeah.. you can trust my word on that one.

I dont need a "power" shard but i want a well designed well run one that doesn banish PK'ing because frankly i have been a PK for a LONG time on the OSI shards and have also fought PK's too.

It in my humble opinion is an integral part of this game. Good VS Evil


So my main requirments would be...


Good skill gain
good community
PVP PVP PVP and MORE PVP
Ethical players (PVP and community wise)



So far im impressed ive gotten a response because other shards dont have must of an active open forum.


So feel free to tell me how good and why you like the shard is. Im curious to know straight from the horses mouth!

Ill be on a bunch im sure, i got some sort of lung issue going o, they found a spot in my right lung which isnt cancerous thus far but they think its related to valley fever which is nasty alot fo time and spreads to your joints.


Minimum recovery time 2 more months...

Total time in recovery so far..... 2 months.


The good news is if it doesnt go away in 2 months they ahve medication for it...the bad news is the side effects are said to mke you wonder whats worse...the side effects or the illness...

One thing you'll learn very quickly is that Obsidian has a very close community - most people know each other and what they get up to. There's pvp if you want it, there's challenging pvm if you want it, there's even a terrific crafting world if you want it.

I've been here for two years and I'm still enjoying it everytime I log on. The best way to find out is like ashes said - just log on and find out

We got a tight community here. Not all of us get along all the time, but most of us know each other, and we all welcome new players. The community here is far better then anything OSI has to offer (or any shard I’ve seen for that matter).

Skill gain is a lot slower then OSI. I played OSI off and on since 1998 and the slow gains give a since of pride when you reach your goal...something that was lacking when I GMed a mage in only about a week on OSI.

We don’t have power scrolls, or tamable dragons, or bards or any of the things you normally associate with "uber" characters, but we do have stats that can reach 180 in any one area (290 total, split up however you like). Our PvP system allows a HUGE variation in character design. Even with this large variation, there is still outstanding balance with constant evolution of play styles without the need for patches and nerfs....which is something that I have never seen, on any shard....regardless of who runs it.

Fishing makes tons of money and so does blacksmithing....you'll learn more about why as you develop your character and become more acquainted with the shard. The economy is basically controlled by Regiss...get to know him...he's a great guy.

We don't have boats here. After I spent most of my time on OSI as a fisherman/treasure hunter, no boats was one of the most disappointing parts of Obsidian. After being here 2 years, I wouldn't want it any other way. Islands are accessible, you just have to learn how to reach them, and the ways to get to them are closely guarded secrets which you'll learn in time.

I think the main thing I myself like about Obsidian over any other player run shards is the community. None of the others including official shards have what Obs has. The way the trading system works has a great deal to do with this too. No locks or arrows here so your characters developement depends on the nessecity to trade with others in order to balance your skills and stats out, almost making it a must to communicate and socialise. Plus the slower gains seperates the newbs from the vets, after all theres nothing worse than gettin whooped by some kid whos only played a week and gmed every skill available
