The koi fish is a Oriental fish, in Japan it is thought to be a good luck symbol. There is a Japanese myth that says that if a koi fish manages to swim to the top of a waterfall they will turn into a dragon. Now if you dont believe in myths... a koi fish is a carp, it looks kinda like a catfish but some have goldfish like coloring. I want to get a koi dragon down my other thigh but I have to design it first.

Sorry, posted at 1am I was tired. Most koi fish tattoos look like catfish, the odd time you'll find a artist that actually drew it to look like a real koi but over all they all look like catfish- dont know why tho catfish arent all that attractive. Thank god my artist changed mine so its actually cute :P

Better Tax-man?? lol

LMAO! NO! THANK GOD! Nah but he does have the fins and whiskers, but he's a goldfish color- well orange right now he's unfinished yet, after so long we had to stop because my skin was starting to tear :( We'll add the yellow later to brighten him up. He's cute!

I worked on a koi farm for a weekend once. My friend Amber's dad owns several in the Virginia/north carolina area. It's amazing how many varieties there are and the price ranges. He sold one once to a japanese man for 50k but the prices range from $50-100k if memory serves me.

ya, but it's really stressful and the really expensive ones are the hardest to work with. It's so gross tho cause you have to "milk" the females and the males, and by "milk" I mean that you first give them something that makes them produce the eggs/sperm and then you literally have to pick them up and squeeze it out of them. SO GROSS! That btw was my job, milking the damn fish.

Aside from all of the ponds you'll have to have and science you'll have to know to keep the water, earth of the ponds, etc in the right conditions for them to strive, etc you'll also have to travel to japan and get to know koi farmers there and make yourself known and your product trusted, takes years. Also these days it's appreciated if you hire on a koi farmer from there and provide a place for him to live as well as pay him enough to keep his family provided for. He'll help on the farm etc but it'll cost you. LOL

To be honest, I wouldn't bother with it.

oh and one more thing, if something happens like say a bacteria grows in one or two of the 100 ponds you have, you'll have to shut down everything, kill off the fish and wait until you're told the ponds are free of the bacteria before you can start over. That episode cause her dad to have a heartattack and nearly a nervous breakdown. It took a year at least before he could start up again and another year to start making money again.
