Well for my 26th Birthday (which is a month away) my wife suprised me with something really cool. She brings me a bunch of newspaper from the sports section of a Japanese newspaper with something inside...

I unfold the paper and behold "Ultima Online - Samurai Empire" complete with all old Ultima Onlines and expansions! She then tells me she's interested in actually playing the Samurai thing (she tires of medival themed games) and asks if I can run a LAN server for it. Woo-hoo! Good times ahead ;)

I also informed her once she learns the ropes of playing Ultima Online she should come join us at Obsidian, and that may happen ;)

Thanks Kinetic. Yeah me personally I like the theme of the original Ultima. She brought up a good point yesterday when she said there most RPGs ARE medival so she's interested in the samurai thang. That's one of a few reasons she has no interest in my conversion mod I'm working on... turning Doom III into a real-time medival RPG.

I'll give it a shot this afternoon after work. Never tried to run a local UO server before, I guess I'll use RunUO.

I know right. EA games sucks... but at least they didn't sue the emulator makers. When I installed the game yesterday and ran the auto-patcher, the first thing it said in the news was something to the effect of these new "evil" decorative items that just came out. Underneath that, is a addition: "All Evil items REMOVED!". Looks like they had them in there for about 2 days before they realized people could dupe these items. Good one... yeah I'll sign up for that 15.95 a month for access to the EA servers right now (NOT!).

I got a RunUO server going with the Samurai Empire stuff running last night. Found out the hard way I had to edit the accounts script to allow multiple connection from the same IP (Just a LAN server) and that an old machine I hoped to get connected needs to be upgraded from 32 megs of ram to 64 in order to run the UO Gateway client. I'll buy the RAM today... should have done that years ago for the POS that just won't die. I chose the UO Gateway client because I tried a few and so far it plays the smoothest on the same machine running the server.

The samurai content was loaded the first time I started RunUO, and I thought it was actually pretty neat. It should be pretty fun to play if I host a LAN party or allow a couple of friends who are also on the same local ISP connect. Of course... whenever I want to play online with more than 4 people on the best custom shard ever I'll still come to Obsidian ;) I actually hope to use my LAN server to get my wife and friends familiar with and enjoying UO enough to want to join Obsidian.
