Hey all :)

Eggmungus' artistic genius has inspired me to get off my arse and actually spend all day writing and mixing an acoustic piece for Obsidian.

I like the idea of people contributing stuff they are passionate about, so here ya go...

This isn't 'proper' hosting, but I think you should be able to get it from this link for a short while, until I can find someone to host it for me :(

And yes im aware it doesnt sound very medieval, but I only got my acoustic at the moment so it will have to do :( I will be able to do something more themed for Obsidian when I get a keyboard so that I can use synths for medieval instruments etc...

Thass I bow to thee. ive played guitar for a while, you pwn me. some of the riffs do speed and slow a bit but perfection takes many recording usually. f***** nice overall m8ie.

Thanks guys :) The difference in speed is because I'm currently not using a recording soundcard - its called 'latency'. When I get my new PC it should be much better.

like I've said on AIM. My only suggestions are that at the beginning when it's slow it seems as though the guitar is dragging on the beat, maybe it's intended to be sycapated but it's too much almost half a beat off sounds like. The other thing is when it transitions to fast from slow that transition is a bit off hard to explain what it needs but just those like 8 bars of the fast transition seem.... painful. The rest and the composition as a whole IS awesome.

Maybe if you could tweak it a bit I think it would be awesome if we could incorporate it some how with obs. Only problem is obs is ALL midi. Maybe put it in the patcher, I dunno.

Ya I noticed that guitar bit at the beginning as soon as i played it back the first time - and yes it was intended to be syncopated :)

The transition is something I was unsure of, but I stand by having it 'dive in' like that - I just like the feel of it, dunno why. It's been mastered with some compression and a mastering limiter so it shouldnt be too harsh of a transition in terms of volume.

I think it may be because the guitars come in at the same time that the background rain effect is faded out, which means that the guitar volume increases proportionalely - however the overall mix volume does not.

That's just the way I mastered it - not perfect but I like to think I did a good job with that mastering considering I taught myself most of it by ear :?

Thanks for the input!

Edit: I do agree that seeing as it was done in one take it could use some tweaking! However, I like the 'improvisational' feel to it - was designed to be a slightly raw song in terms of structure to fit the theme a little more.

Nice track Thassius. Hearing that makes me think you listen to Paco de Lucia, Al Di Meola and John McLaughlin

If you enjoy the track, please remember to rate it at Bandamp - I've entered it into the August battle and first prize is a 4GB Ipod! Even if I win gummy bears I'd be happy though lol...

Thanks guys :)

You *need* to create an account/register for your rating to count, but the couple of minutes that takes would be most appreciated...don't ask for alot from ya :)
