Post subject:  BATTLE CHESS

This event was originally Echo's idea so I'd just like to give him some MAJOR HUGE props on coming up with the idea. I kinda stole it from him and ran with it, gave it structure, but we want to form up the arena so that any staff can run it.

Image

2 Teams: One in Black robes, the other in White robes

8 Pawns: Newbies, Crafters, and people relatively non-leet
2 Rooks aka Castles: Archers
2 Knights: Warriors on horseback
2 Bishops: Mages with Black staffs
1 Queen: Mage
1 King: Warrior

Kings and Queens are picked first by staff.
Then Bishops, Knights, and Rooks are chosen to ensure the board is balanced.
Finally the King chooses his subjects (pawns). Since white moves first, black chooses pawns first.

The game commences as a normal game of chess with the King controlling the pieces telling them where to go. The thing that makes it different is that when you go to capture a piece or being captured then we have BATTLE CHESS. Break any rules and the piece that broke the rules is removed from the board.

Rules for battle chess:

No area of effect spells. This will affect other "pieces" on the board so only use direct damage spells. This includes mass protect or mass curse. No Wall spells of any kind. NO HEALING OTHER PIECES DURRING BATTLE! If this becomes an issue we might have the fights take place outside of the chessboard. NO Moving. Stay in your space unless you are battling or the king tells you to move. No TALKING. The king controls the board, let him persue his/her chess strategy. YEAH, WOOT, DAMN, etc is acceptible after a fight. If a fight drags on for longer than 5 minutes, this is a stalemate battle, both the attacker taking the square and the defender of the square roll dice the higher number takes the square the lower is removed from the table. This will ensure that both parties fight to the death. We thought that in stalemates the attacker would win by default but this is bad too because then every fight would last 5 minutes because the attacker would just focus on running around and healing.

Special rules for pieces:
PAWN - No magic, tamers CAN have 1 pet on the board with them (if they keep them under control)
ROOK - Must use bow/crossbow ALWAYS, can't use any other weapons
KNIGHT - Must stay on horseback, cannot use ranged weapons or offensive magic
BISHOP - Cannot use summons or AE or wall spells
QUEEN - Anything goes except again no AE or wall spells

KING - When engaged in battle the king MUST stand against his/her apponent and not move, if the king runs from an enemy even for a second to get away and heal, he is concidered forfit and is mated. If the king is defeated in armed combat he is defeated.

Well there shouldn't be talking when the king is deciding the his move. I write that rule in so that there's only 2 people playing the chess game not 32+ people (including spectators). The thing is that the game would drag on longer if people were arguing about what piece to move where. Also it is 32 pieces but keep in mind half of those pieces are pawns.

Pawns will have trouble killing each other and will always lose to other
pieces, hence no "even pawn can kill king". lol Also I know I wouldn't
want to gain any additional skills on my crafters. But yeah sounds fun
and let's see how it goes. Good one, Echo. :)

Edit: And how about letting pawns use magic for heal/cure.

After a long and brave fight the battlechess is over. The outcome? Black Team fairly won and heroes were born. Ludacris, Andarille, Azimuth, Urban - those were the names that made the delight of the viewers. There were some problems with the white team, the badest being that lea, the king, got connection problems and the team was left without a captain right at the end of the match. Nonetheless it was a great event for which i must thank CyberVic, Echo and Zaphod. I have a ss taken in vesper right before departing to the battle grounds. Here it is:
