What is your current magery? Easier spells don't seem to effect gains as much the higher your skill is.

Also if you cast on your self its usually to gain resist, so you should maybe use a spell that hurts you. And magery seems to gain faster if you cast on monsters or other players. Casting on yourself the mage gains are slow no matter what spell you use.

I hate to do this Koldoon, but you're wrong. Magery gains, or as far as I know, have nothing to do with what circle spell you're using. You gain based on attempts, the more attempts you can get, the better the chance you have of gaining. I personally prefer Magic Arrow, as you gain resist, healing, med and magery while macroing this. Another favorite is Fireball, for the same reasons.
If you strictly want Magery gains, using simple regs to get ahold of. Use Agility, while you need a full book, it takes very very little mana, and uses BM and MR, which are easily obtainable.

Yeah, as Circa said.
I'm also with what belgorion said, casting on others seems to get the gains going quicker but then u dont get all the benefits of macroing fireball or magic arrow on yourself.

Damn you Kin and Circa, you guys beat me to it, but as one of the few decent mages left around. I know my mages inside out, and well, Kin, Circa and Dolek got it right.
If you need help with a good way to macro, or any tips on a mages skills/stats etc. I'm always around and more than willing to help.

I think u get quicker gains with high end spells, I cant put it down to luck or random gains because it's happened to many times. I can wack 200 magic arrows or fire ball and not gain, then 30 or so ebolts and get 2 or 3 gains. Wiered maybe but thats the way it's been going for me.

I agree with Excal. I recall a whole bunch and compared to when I use magery to kill monsters and such with lightning, explosion, etc I gain more than the same amount of casts of recall.
