You just gotta dmg the weapon abit (Fight NPC's, or people) Once it is damaged enough, you can re-charge it by using the Orb.
It'll take some time and alot of beating around an npc, but it'll work...eventually.

Vanq is fire
ruin is ice
I think mihgt is water
and +7 is earth.

they work but once you charge a weapon (which require to be slightly dmged) the orb will dissapear.

And yes, you can only recharge weap so many times (once or twice, not
sure anymore).

It'd more likely be connected with how damaged the weap is then. As in,
it needs to be damaged to re-charge, but poofs if it's damaged too much.
