how big is that 400.exe patch ?

mine shows 451KB and it seems it's not updating at all

when i click obsidian.exe it shows 3.5.0.0 <-- should it be like that, or should it show 4.0.0 ?

i dont even see the new client interface.

I hate replying when I don't have any real info but I just want to relate my own experience. :)

I manually downloaded the patcher and applied it. To be honest, it happened so quick when I did it that I copied it to the Obs directory and ran it again. Same thing. Uber-quick.

However, when the server is up and running, I am am able to connect just fine. My client still shows the 3.5.0.0 version as well.

I hate to broach the delicate subject of what, if any, mods/helper apps you guys might be running. Have you (I don't even know if there is even the info available to do this) made any "hacks" to the config files or anything?

To be honest, I run just the client plus the new (manually downloaded) patch along with UOAM. To be brave and throw my money where my mouth is, I have used UO Autopilot and UO Loop in the past. (Let the record show that I've only used them while I have been sitting staring glassy eyed at my monitor. Damn me for not reading the posts about Musicianship earlier!)

Other than that, I've got nothing. If it ran fine before and you applied the patch then, well... Now, and not necessarily in this order, you might just have to start getting into what kind of machine you have, what exactly do you see second by second when you try to run Obs, what processes are running during your attempt, sending a DXDiag.txt file to GMBob, oh, and a sample of your mitochondrial dna will probably work wonders...

Anyhoo, that's all I've got. If I find even the smallest amount of information later I will be sure to write volumes more than is necessary to convey it to you. :P

I used the free version of GetRight (http://download.getright.com/getright-download.exe) to get mine. (4.9MB download) (I can't wait for my broadband to be up next week. grrrrr...)

However, the actual obsidian patch is only 0.75Mb.

In our excitement to logon, let's not forget to stand on our heads and attempt to drink that pint. As long as it helps... ;)

just use the "here" link provided.
if that doesn work.
right click the link and go to properties copy and paste the url.
dont use a downloading program.
the patcher will not automatically install the patch. it will say "attempted patching three times"
failed.

I think it would be good to know if you realy need to put it in the game directory or just run it where you saved it. Like I said, it happened so quick that I did it again from the game directory just to be sure.

That and the killing of the "obsidianpatch.exe" process might help many new players that might be stumbling across our fun little beta.

Another piece of information that could be very useful for those that might be tempted to reformat their machines just to get on: Is the patch incorporated into the latest Obsidian Client that is currently available for download?

Also, I just recommended the download program since I'm currently on dialup until next week. The Obs Client patch is a small file but sometimes DLs quit for some reason and assume that you got everything. At least in my experience, Internet Explore seems to have this problem allot. A DL program will pretty much eliminate that as a factor if people are having trouble logging on. 8)

The "here" link for the patch is here: http://www.dxgaming.com/obsidian/patcher/400.exe (Just in case people don't want to hunt for it again) :)

you can run the patch from anywhere and it works just fine. I ran it straight from download without saving it anywhere and it was ok. My install is in the standard folder tho(c:\games) anywhere else and it may not work.

Client still shows version 3.5.0.0 but you can tell if its patched properly when u get to the login screen. If you look closely it should now say Obsidian T4A instead of the T3A it used to say and Obsidian 4.0.0 at the bottom as well.

Still not working.

Heres wat I do

Open Obsidian Patcher, click the "here" link, click "run" then it downloads. I close obsdiain patcher, reopen it, click check for patches and load obsidian, it tries to patch it 3 times and says it fails. I've saved the 400.exe in my obs directory and hasnt done anything.

Apoc... So you are doing the manual download and just running it from the download dialog box? How about trying to actually download it somewhere (Save As...) and then run it from there?

I don't think that will make much difference, but, you never know... I'll brb... I have to go smoke and think on these things...

Ok... So!

It sounds to me like, and my gut is telling me this, that you may have a corrupted DL of the 400 patch. If you are running Obsidian and it's still checking 3 times for the latest patch then what you downloaded and ran prior is not being applied for some reason. I say this since we know the auto-patcher isn't working and that is just what I experienced before doing the manual download.

So! If you don't want to use a download manager program, then try clearing your Temporary Internet files and then download it again to, say, your Desktop before you run it.

(I'm assuming you are on Windows XP)

That's all I have for now. Like I say, it sounds like what you are downloading isn't applying for some reason. Also, it is odd since a corrupt download would more than likely give you some sort of error when you try to run it. Then again, the patch ran so fast for me that I didn't even see it run.

I hope my paragraphs are easy to read. Sorry if I'm long winded. I always have the best intentions in mind. :)

OMFG,
Apocalypse, please follow these simple directions.
Be sure to be on a admin account on Vista.
Close Obsidian
(dont even open it if its not already, But if its been opened, ctrl+alt+del>open task manager>process's>obsidianpatcher.exe>right-click>end process)

Download the 400.exe file from the link provied
(download it to your desktop)
Ok, when the 400.exe is on your desktop, double click it
Let it work its magic. It may prompt u after completion to close.(do so)
p.s. Just click the link no reason to right click it.
