Post subject:  Tailoring Syntax

Image

It saids "You undoes a failed stitch" which it should say "You undo a failed stitch"

Cheers!

EDIT:

Image

It saids "You stitches together a seam" which it should say "You stitch together a seam"

Cheers!

EDIT: This time I wont place a picture, but will just address the mistake.

1. "You fights with the unwilling material" should be "You fight with the unwilling material"
2. "You measures out a design" should be "You measure out a design"
3. "You cuts out some material" should be "You cut out some material"

Cheers!

Uh Kistler...ever heard of Omnipresence?

Ya I have heard of such a word :P

Still the syntax is incorrect. I doubt the reason its like that is because of being omniscient lol

Bob talked about this before, when it says "You undoes a failed stich" or w/e, OTHER players see that as "f***** undoes a failed stich" or "f***** fights with the unwilling material".

Bob said that he'd rather have other players see the words correctly then having the player see it correctly.

Has Bob ever heard of "passive voice"??

"You undoes a failed stitch" --> A failed stitch is undone.
"Spawn undoes a failed stitch" --> A failed stitch is undone.

Solves the problem doesn't it?

I like Judas' idea. It reads well :)

Post subject:  Re: Tailoring Syntax

there are a lot of "syntax" discrepancies. just deal with it. you know what it means. who cares. like the phrase "there is nothing here to mine for" is incorrect english. get over it. just play the damn game and quit complaining about stupid shit. bob has other more important things to worry about. at least i would think so.

CHEERS ALL :D

Or how about we bring up mistakes we encounter, report them, and Bob can fix them when he can.

If I find a mistake I will post about it, which is what this seemed to be. Stfu and cool yourself.

Emote syntax is a pain in the ass.
Just thought i'd let everyone know that.
And yeah, this is the same fight i have with myself whenever i code ANYTHING.

And judas, i thought about passive voice, but it doesn't really work with the client.
*A failed stitch is undone* above someone's head just seems a little too... meta?
But yeah, keep em comming. Any suggestions on better writings is always appreciated, as is fixing any other typos i make.

I like this thread. To be fair, passive voice I actually quite like as an idea. It's been used to great effect in games like Planescape Torment. It may well be the lesser of two evils in this case.
