I was on on somewhat of a holy quest recently to find the soundfont files from the original UO disk and stumbled upon this guy's site. http://www.ultima.rabbitslair.de/ultima_online.htm He didn't like the soundfonts that came with the original game so he pumped the original MIDI music files through a "Roland Sound Canvas 55 in General Midi with a Creative Soundblaster Audigy as recording device". The results are amazing. If you don't believe me, just give the "Vesper" track a whirl here: http://www.ultima.rabbitslair.de/ultima ... Vesper.ogg However, alas, he didn't have one of my favorite tracks. That being the second "swamp_a.mid" file that came out after the UO beta test. If anyone has the original .sf2 files from the UO disk or knows where to get them, I would really like to have them...

UO used Windows's gm.dls sound bank rather than a soundfont unless you had a hardware or software synth set up to use a different .sf2 file.

I never played on OSI servers so I have fonder memory of obsi's music. Cove, vesper and the death music. If only I could hear them again.

My "holy quest" has been going on for quite a bit longer than yours.

Good news! I misread your post and was wrong on most the stuff I said. The original UO cd had both a 4md soundfont and 512k one.

Oh, man! Thanks, guys! I was actually kind of down after I posted that. I was all like "man, I haven't played in ages. who's going to care." bla bla bla... So...

I actually DID have that version of swamp_a.mid! What I was on the quest for was the .sf2 files. And you, sire, have provided what I needed! Now...all i have to do is hook up my old Sound Blaster card and load it up! It figures that just as I get the Sound Blaster Z that THAT is the card that Creative decides to not support SoundFonts with. And I'm going to have to get a PCI extender cable in order to squeeeeeeze in my old SB card (I 'think' it's a Live!...can't remember...). I don't know but having 2 nVidia GTX 680s might be a little overkill for Obs anyway... heh...

Well, well, well... Again, I'm happy for the responses. I forgot how cool this place was. I 'have' signed in from time to time in order to keep my guys "alive". Here...here is how long I've been "gone": I stopped playing after I moved to a different state because it was too hard to consistently make enough money to place a new house after the house fix some time ago. I think it was...oh, geeze...07? Remember? We had to move some of our houses because they wouldn't work on the terrain they were placed? My friend OtisMcOtis and I had a Smithy placed NE of Britain. I packed up our house and all of its stuff using...man, for the life of me I can't remember...some command...and it put everything into a cute little gift box with a bow. I STILL have that box on my main guy (Cybershaman). Man...I'm not even sure it will "reconstitute"!

Welp, I've decided I have to start playing Obs again. I need to get on and "relearn" everything. Then, I have to get to fishing with my GM fisher Gorton ("Trust the Gorton's fisherman", get it? heh...) so I can build up my income again. Get the house placed. Get the vendors up again. And, and, and... Man... It's going to be "fun"! Seriously, can't wait...
