magery affects your delay in healing...something like 10 or 12 seconds between heals with GM magic (I think)

I would recomend relying on pots, fish, and magic to heal, drop healing, keep anatomy for the GM bonus to meele, go with swords, or macing for hard slow hits, and cast something between hits. Stats...maybe try for 150 str, 90 dex, and the rest in int.....I'm only 2 months into obsidian, so take my advice with a grain of salt, but if I was making a tank, this is probably the way I would go...

I think these would be the best skills to get.
GM one combat style ie swords, maceing. GM magery, magic resist, healing, anat, tactics, then pick a skill you only want 80 in that might help you better.
I would go like 115-120 str, 90,dex, 84 int and only use potions and magery to finish someone off.

heres my advice, i think it works pretty well, i used to think tanks suck, but tbh they are great.

first off, go human, not ice elf cleric or anything else.

then ur combat skill, id go swords or mace, swords have such a variety which prob make it best,a nd they faster, however i use mace, and damn do magic hammerpicks own (only magics can be equiped with shield). with mace tho, u only really got 3 good weapons, magic hammerpicks, war axe and warhammer. rest are too slow and too weak.
Ok other skills, GM magery, GM resist, GM heal (great in pvm, against warriors and for when u run out of mana to cast magic heal when fighting mages who drain ur ass), GM tactics, and id also say GM parry. Yes parry, cos ok without it u can do fab against a mage, but when u fighting a warrior, even with reactive and protection on u'll still get owned cos of low AR of myth, so say u even do supplement ur AR by wearing verite chesta nd legs, still owned, :( so ya parry also must. and again thats why i chose mace cos i can equip a magic hammerpick (best mace weapon and use a shield). and the rest will be about 60 anat, and leave about 14 odd for taht miscellaneous wrestle we all seem to gain when curing poison with bandies. (no-one ever gets 680 points, i reach 674.1 before i go over my skill cap)

so stats, ya id say 110 str, 90 int, 90 dex, jsut palya round see wot suits u best.

also, yeah we need tonnes of pots, G heals, G mana, and also even cure pots. when fighting mage i like to be able to keep pounding them, so instead of casting an nox, slip a cure pot down ur neck, leaving ur weapon + shield still equiped.
me and my bro worked on an alchemist, i think its vital, having pots at hand, is great advantage.

you should make an archer fs mage which would pwn everyone if you maxxed it out. go for resist, med, eval, anat, tactics, archery, and of course magery. just use xbow's and you willl rape..or at least i think you will.

Speaking as a tank myself, I've found that keeping my int at 100 is so much better than having higher str... for a start, you don't have to fork out tons of cash on -int pots when you gain int from fighting/casting spells/resisting magic and with 100 int, you can cast poison, 2 fs's and a lightning bolt with great ease...

As for dex, I left mine at 91. It's classed as Superhumanly quick, and I can't see any noticable difference betwen 91 -> 100 dex tbh...

As far as skill go...

GM Swords or Mace/GM Tactics/GM Parrying/GM Magery/GM Anatomy/GM Resist
I've opted for healing as my 80 skill

And for those of you who can't afford to train magery, do the warrior first!!! It took me a couple of months to get Avatar to where I was happy with him as a warrior, THEN I started to train magery. The benefits are astounding with the right guidance, I wish someone had given me this kind of advice when I first started :)
