| Post subject: | Staff Application - A community project |
I've been thinking for quite some time about writting a really comprehensive staff application because I think we need a lot of counselors. I mean a LOT of counselors like 10-15 or so that way there is almost always one to two counselors on and the GM's and Seers can focus on quests more. So what I am asking you the community of Obs to do today is to help me write a good comprehensive staff application. Please don't chatter in this thread. Please per post could you please post one really hard question that you feel should be in the staff application. This could be questions about how, why, etc you want to be a counselor to questions about Obs, questions about high end skills, questions about how to deal with customer service issues. I want this application to take a half hour to an hour to fill out. Thanks for your time in advance. |

i think a question, along the lines of wot constitutes a res kill as ppl always seem to not know how to distinguish one. and as u said, general questions on why they deserve to be staff, like showing how dedicated they are to the shard, by the hours put into their chars' and the skills they have reached. also wot they would do as staff, and how long they think they will be on each day/week. |

Yeah I agree with Bruiser, But i would also think they'd need to know a fair amount about the shard, what skills require what. and Things like that. So they actually do know what things are about in the shard. A total newbie who doesen't even really know alot of the caps and skills and things isnt a good choice. |

Please if you guys could post specific examples of questions. I do want questions like you stated but I'd like to see the community help me make some really hard questions. As always it will be required for 6 months on Obsidian to be concidered for a counselor position. Also you need to have a certain amount of involvement in the community aka forums. |

The applicant would not have to be bias toward players he or she have had desputes with in the past or show favour to friends that would suck big time. |

heheh, i use the forums a lot...........bruiser is 26 in few days........ emm.......skill caps are always a concern, so a question of "wot are the different skill caps for the different races". (although they do have stated caps of ... and .... tho, neither human, vamp or warlock get those, but are usally a little bit lower.) and armour requiremnts. "wot str do u need to wear full plate armour",a nd "wot are warlocks restricted to in armour class". also maybe like where can certain monsters be located (helpful to know so counselors can grab certain ones for bashes). |

also i think questions about specific situations would be good...im not sure of anything but their could be loads of ideas from gms and their past experiences this is just an example: Say a pker just killed someone while the person logged out when not in town, the person that was pked finds himself dead and pages about his problem, what solution would you decide to give him? |

Against rules for staff members to move monsters. 1) Is your main character chaos, order, or nuetral? 2) What time zone are you in? 3) What do you do when you see a player about to cheat? 4) A player is in jail and says it is his release time. What do you do? 5) You are uncontrolably mad at a player but still need to punish him what do you do. 6) A new player is stuck physically but is still able to use a rune stone what do you do? 7) There is a page in queue that says "I need help" what do you do with it? 9) You punish a player and he/she keeps paging what do you do. 10) Two players page about the other. The two players accuse the other of doing some sort of wrong to the other. How do you resolve the situation? |

I believe staff should be knowledgable about everything in obsidian, and be able to think on thier toes, that way they are prepared for unusual questions. Pick five of the following statements and say whether the it is illegal or legal, and what you would do if you were presented with this situation. When applicable, include how this situation could happen in game. A. A house with a blue hueue'd cloth'd table B. A page about PKing in cove graveyard, upon arriving you see tons of PC bodies, but the players who own the bodies have logged. C. A character wielding a heavy crossbow of vanquishing of daemon breath D. One player standing next to another player's corpse in war mode and ghost inside a house with a closed/locked door, neither player moving. E. A movable spell GUMP Tile. (the same tiles you drag from your spellbook for quick-keys, but as an item in game) in someone's house F. Two players fighting in town. G. You receive a page about a cheater, and upon arriving you are told that Character B had killed character A after character A had opened his house door and was now looting the entire house. H. You see a character walkign around with a redhueue'd staff. I. A character asks you for money/items/ressurection. K. You respond to a page on a small island where a player has died. The island is around 50 tiles total area, and has no healer or portals. |

Deleted all the posts that ran off topic including mine. Please if you want to flame this post, the intentions of this post, or otherwise get this thread off topic do it some place else. Please do not post telling me there is no need for more staff or evaluate why I am tryin to do here. If you want to submit potential questions for the staff application do so, otherwise stay out of the conversation. |

At the end of the day a counsellor can only go by the rules stated by bb. In most cases common sense will prevail and if your unsure just ask another member of staff. No one can claim to know it all when they are starting out as a counsellor.I think the basis of a good counsellor is the willingness to learn and don't feel belittled if they need to ask someone for help. That way your not getting 15 to 20 counsellors who think they know it all, your getting 15 to 20 people learning the ropes the way you want them to learn. |
