OK guys:

This is a work-in-progess for a new Obsidian Banner on the 'topshards' sites - I need your input, suggestions and potential criticisms.

If you think it needs improving, tell me how, because I've spent 30 minutes of my life (enough) on this and I'm now gonna play my guitar - so lets hear your point of view!

personaly i'd make the lettering darker, but other then that it looks great

Thanks guys!

I actually found that if I made the writing darker it was difficult to read - so I applied an inner glow instead to make it more visible...what do you think?

OK I managed to get around that problem by making the writing darker but applying a glow around the edges to make the text more visible. Here it is i'll probably tweak it a little:

ill help you with ur graphics Thass,

you have to use the methods of CRAP

C- Contrast
R- repeatition ( i spelt that wrong)
A- alignment
P-proximity

now, look at the banner again and does it have all of those? if not, how can you improve on ur crapness.

things are too close together it looks mumbled hard to read the weird elfin language on top or whatever it is and hard to read the writting on bottom where it says obsidian shard for improvements move the title more in the middle it seems off. dont have too much of this outer glow, it makes everything look the same and lose focus on the main idea, not bad for 30 mins

The writing at the top is actually Ultima runes. I've removed the outer glow from them and eased the contoured emboss a little to make them more visible.

The writing in the centre is actually dead centre, its just an optical illusion. No outer glow on that either actually, its just a corona effect combined with smoke over transparent clouds.

Better? Bear in mind I can count the amount of times I've done this on one hand...
