I like the whole 'story' idea, so here's one that probably reflects the situation:

Johnny loved to play the drums and fiddle with PA equipment. He loved it so much that he set up his garage as a home studio so he could record himself playing drums and mix different sounds along with it. After a while he thought it might be more fun just to mix sounds, so he opened up his garage to anyone who wanted to come along and play music. Johnny would sit back and just mix sound for them and host these great jam sessions for people who were his friends, or that he didn't even know.
To make it secure, Johnny locked the mixing desk in a secure room, but left out inputs so people could come in at any time and enjoy his room.

After a while so many people were coming along that Johnny's PA started to burn out - but people loved his studio SO MUCH that they chipped in money to help Johnny buy a new PA. But Johnny didn't change the wires much when he installed it, so there started to be problems with the new PA as well. What's more, Johnny was hardly seen, and only he had a key to the locked room where the repairs could be made.

People started to get upset, a great many just stopped coming (even those who had chipped in for the new PA), and those who remained became grumblers. Johhny's friends tried to stop the grumbling, reminding everyone that this WAS Johnny's garage, but the people replied by saying 'so why doesn't he just fix a few things?'

Eventually Johnny popped his head back into the garage, he saw people were upset and decided that this was no good. So he told them he would fix the PA very soon, just wait until next month.

Months, even years, later, people were still hanging in there waiting for Johnny to make these 'fixes' that he talked about (he was still the only one with a key to the back room, so those people who had skills in this area couldn't fix things for him). People really loved Johhny's garage, and were REALLY patient, but just found it hard when Johnny would put his head in the room every few months and say 'that fix is coming soon' but no more.

I guess the question is, should Jonny close the garage, fix the PA, or hand out key(s) to the back room to others who could fix the PA?
