Good evening, I just thought i'd get this post up before bed.
The shard is due to go down again in about.... 6.6 days. give or take a few hours. This also means that the patch is about to come as well.
However due to the way things have been going, we have a bit of a problem. The patch has been ready for around a month and a half. Unfortunately, due to broadband having real life issues, we've been unable to accurately test the patch with the shard data as a whole until just recently. I.E. bob, echo, and the rest of staff have been working their asses off in the past week to try to make up for lost time.
So we have a poll for you guys. We can either bump the patch back another month, OR we can install the patch now, and have a live beta. This means that there could be rollbacks if big bugs are found, and things could be not working as usual, since it is a pretty big patch that affects almost every part of the shard in one way or another.
Poll is attached to this post.
In other news, the "wouldn't it be neat" contest is almost at a close, with the patch comming up, so be sure to enter that if you have any ideas.

I say release now so players could help look for kinks in the patch for a potentially clean version next month. Best to go ahead and get any needed rollbacks or whatever out of the way sooner I think.

What The Wizard said. Release that sucker now and the players will surely help in finding any potential bugs.
Sounds like fun!

I gotta vote live beta, just to keep things moving along. Although i would say one or two people need to be made completely aware of the possible rollbacks etc & that even though it has been released the patch is effectively still being tested & anything anyone has to say about it should be done so in more helpful manner rather than the usual overly critical way they usually do
In short...Be nice people! heh
Cheers for the update as always bob

not that my opinion or vote would be taken into consideration or anything. But would the rollback be only as far as when the patch was implemented. And how long are we going to let the patch go before finding bugs and rolling back?

afcors rollback would be only to the begining of the patch implementation, considering there would be any major bugs. So just dont train your characters when patch comes and wait for the staff to tell everyone that beta is over.

how large is the patch download going to be?
also, will we be able to download the patch files seperately without having to use the autopatcher?
my highspeed is currently down so i'm just wondering if i could nab the files at my buddies house and throw them on my flash drive to take home.
oh, and i voted 'yes' on the beta. mmmm...beta...heh...

My only problem with this is the rollback issue. If the rollback is to far then some ppl who have characters that still poof are gonna not lose the privlage of poofing, but have it on for an extended period. I still have a character that I havent been able to delete for about a month now.

I have to echo the concerns about a roll back.
But, as unappealing as a potential rollback may be...
1. Staff have lives outside of Obsidian. I know, who would have guessed.
2. With no time to adequately test over the last month, how can we believe there will be more time over the next month.
3. Assuming the patch is stable, many testers under live conditions may prove more efficient than simulations alone.
4. It will be totally cool to beta test something as cool as Obsidian!
My vote was for Beta!
Kudos to broadband and all of the staff for all the time and effort to keep the shard up and running.
Thanks guys!
