Alright, well i figured i might as well make things easier for you all and make a globalized calendar system for obsidian's in-game time, and after some debating with the people online at various points in the past few days, it was decided that 1 in-game year per regular year was what people wanted, as opposed to many years per year.

This does pose an interesting problem.
there are 365.25 days in a real life year(leap years, remember?). In-game time passes slightly quicker, with 45 seconds irl = 1 minute in-game.
If you do the math, this works out to exactly 487 days per in-game year.

The only major problem with this... is that it's prime.
Meaning there's no easy method to divide it up by seasons, months, or any standard time metric.
So with that knowledge, how do YOU want the in-game calendar.
Should we go by growing seasons? By months like the gregorian/caesarean calendars?
Or something entirely different?

You have 487 days to divide up as you wish, so lets hear the ideas.

In my opinion, it should be split up evenly in months by 4. So thats 121.75 days per season, leaving .75 for each season, but add them together and thats 3 days extra to a season, so make Summer longer.

It should go as real life, to add realism, summer(124 days), fall(121 days), winter(121 days) spring(121 days). That would be an even, and realistic way to mix things up.

Also, during seasons make certain animals atainable. Like during winter, you could add a pitch white stang, only catchable during winter. Summer you could add a stang for its seasons, and so on for the rest.

Just a little idea :D

Yup, I'm going to be unoriginal and agree with Todd's ideas on this one, and I would encourage you to go with his special items idea as well. After all, there's really not a whole lot of point in defining the seasons if they don't affect gameplay. Plus, changing things up according to the seasons by adding some things and taking others away would be a good way to entice people to keep playing for longer periods of time. Also, because I am a sucker for events, I might point out that those three extra days tagged onto summer sound like a fantastic time for an in-game festival. Because, you know, you GMs don't have enough to do already with everyday maintenance. =p

Alright, I'm going back to my lurking now. *disappears back into the crowd*

Yeah, special items, certain animals, and certain events have to occur during each season or this seems rather pointless

Well there is already going to be certain events/etc that require time (such as all our holiday festivals), and there are already seasonal animals such as the turkey(fall) and the pegasus(winter), so yes expect more of the same.

So yeah, i'll divide it up by seasons then.

Feel free to co-ordinate hours of the day to match whether it is dark or light out. I have asked the banker the time and he says it is 1pm. Meanwhile, I needed to use nightsight to even see that banker lol. Could add some realism to the gameplay....esp with vamps out.

moon phases have always existed, but i'm writing a new system for em, since the basic one sucks. So yes lots of stuff iwth the moons, the sun, the weather, etc. :)

For those keeping track, yes this is one of my "for fun" projects to keep me amused while i get throuh the boring crap. So those who say i should work on more important stuff, add this one to your bitching list! :D or to quote recent posts, "LOL!"

You may think this is "for fun" But minor things like this will make a big effect on the game. Itll look better, and be better to play :)
