After a while of watching Mariner and myself moderate the auction section of the forums for a few years, something that personally annoys me pops up from time to time came up again recently.
When an auction reaches say 100k, it makes no sense to me to have players bidding less than an additional 1k. One of the main reasons for this is that it can take a long time for an auction to play out in the first place, and if people are going back and forth adding only a few gold pieces to their bid, it just makes things take a lot longer than they should.
What do you all think? Should the amount where 1k increments are necessary start at 10k instead? 50k? I am interested in what the players have to say on this, and I believe it is time for a new rule like this.

I agree adding like 500 gp or something like that is a waste of time, and mostly done when someone is screwing around anyway.

Agree, a minimum of 1k is mandatory for a item starting, and or, reaching over 100k.

A player should have a rough idea of how much their item is worth and are more than welcome to add restrictions to their auctions. They can mandate a certain minimum bid. They can even have a buy out option if they choose too.

I strongly disagree. I believe that 1gp increases are crucial to tacticful, and smart bidding. The man I'm bidding against will be all like. "What? 1 gp? What game are you playing at?!"
To which I reply. "Your move, slavika."
There all like. "I'll bid 10,000 more then you did!"
I will then increase my bid by 1, making him think that I have infinite amounts of cash, and will win.
Problem, staff? Attachment: 1307871712115.jpg
*edit*
But in all reality, I broke no rules bidding 1 gp higher then duckbutters bet.
Falin failed to mention a minimal increase, which in the rules says you can at the begging. It was free game for me to bid what ever I want.
I think that the *mandatory 1k after 100k bids* is very stupid. If the bidder wants that rule, he will state so in his post. If he dosen't, then we can only assume that he dosen't care how lengthy it is.
TL;DR
Falins fault for not making a minimal bid.

I agree 1k minimum increase.
Ps. Todd, I doubt you even had the money to purchase it, second why do you purposely piss of people?

Intentionally driving up prices in an auction is against the rules even if it is only raising it 1 gp. But these things tend to backfire on people sometimes and punishment is usually doled out when it does. However Todd does have a right to an opinion and this comment does not belong here.

Thank you Mariner... I was just simply stating that in the rules it does not say I CAN'T bid 1gp (unless they changed it VERY recently)
I broke no rules, but I was off topic a bunch, so I did deserve a strike there lol.

I Disagree with this you should be able to bid what you want, and if someone is serious about buying it when they see that 1 gold raise they will just raise it 20k and if the person does the 1 gold thing again let him have it. But Buying and Selling Forum is already a Joke. People Drive up prices by 50k at once and than if they are left to buy it they just take out their bid.
Shut down that Forum its pointless its just there scamming honest players out of there ingame money due to trolls randomly bidding.
Make an auctioneer ingame so you have to have the money to bid and have it so once you bid you cannot get your money back unless someone outbids you.

Lately I've wished we had an "auction hall" type system sort of like Lord of the Rings Online of (cringe) World or Warcraft. That way, we wouldn't have to wait for the player selling something to be online. But of course people could say that kills a social value of it or whatever.
The least I've ever raised a bid was 500gp I think. lol
