was just thinking, what made ppl leave this shard? i rember when 100 ppl came on every night so what made us go from 100 to 50 i mean thats a big number was it because that to many changes happend to soon, hmmm this is back when necro did not exist and that cooking was new to obis, which i think was a change for the best... any way i was kinda thinking if necro was never done and bugs and spells were still not done why did they open it so ppl could play as necro, why could they not like wait untill everything was done and ppl would not leave because of bring killed with the killer not loseing anything just gaining a lot of stuff from killing that person

i got losta t the end of wot u were saying, but..............ppl leave cos they gte bored. Once u get GM skills, big house, nice weapons, loads cash, u often feel liek theres not much keeping u in it. Myabe u get staff, tahst nice, something new, but if not, well same old, kill some dragons, find some nice weapons, earn some gold. Even once u become total rich ass dick jobby face of total ownage of poison strike, u think ya, not much for me to do now :/
and as u said, some ppl gte pissed at bugs, fooking their chars, or their house vanishing ( still pissed at that one), jajajjajaj, with entire contents.
or being PK'ed everyday of every year ;([/i]

lots of people:
1. they get pked and quit for good
2. no more time to play and need to leave for real life issues
3. just quit, for really no apparent reason
4. do not like changes, think they will ruin the shard
5. too many changes, they think it would make the shard crappy
6. they mysteriously vanish then come back 1-2 years later
7. Bruisers reason up above

8: listen to the sugesstions and idea's of the players
9: staff need to be more interactive with the staff, for example hold more events with loot, also try to make events also for noob/cove players!

People leave for all kinds of reasons. It happens on every shard. The GMs can't make everyone happy with changes....
Some of the basics seam to be missing from this shard...I think that has a lot to do with the high turn around rate. For example, boats, some skills, and The LL are standards on almost any shard, and they are some of the things people coming from OSI expect, but they're missing from OBS.
As I said, people leaving happens on all shards...it's just the way the game is and has always been...people take breaks. The average time to play UO seams to be about 4-6 months before a long term break sets in. The break usually last between 4 months and a year before the UO bug hits again. By that time, the account of someone playing Obsidian is long gone...the player goes and tries somewhere else for a few months.
For high numbers over the long term:
1) Put the basics in and fix some of the outstanding bugs (read: VENDORS).
2) Increase the time it takes for an account to be deleted
3) Find new avenues to get new players

I'd leave for most of Bruisers reasons and also because I spent far too much time on Obs...
I mentioned something about it another thread, but here's a few more reasons:
1. Changes to the shard being promised (90% likely) at a certain date, but then being delayed months and months with little or no info on what the progress is...A weekly notice of 'I fiinished this bit' or 'I couldn't be bothered to script at all this week' would clear that problem up...
2. Things being removed from the shard with no warning, changes being implemented with no announcements, rules being set and inforced by GM's ingame that are never written down for all to see...
3. New things being planned making old things redundent...The old things are removed, but the new things are never actually get added...
All imo of course...

Umm, look in your obsidian folder, in the files rules.txt
Ever rule in the game is in there. It is enforced to the letter.

But there are some rules that are NOT in those rules... There are so many rules that alot of gms do make up and it never gets mentioned so we dont know what's illegal and what's not(well new player neway)

there are some off us that are still around who have been here for very very long time even before u guys ever came in into obs we used to play when only 4-5 ppl would sign on at the same time it was a miracle if u saw 10 players at once... i remember it was once that me and valor got like 21 ppl online when we where staff members and we hosted an event it was the most obs had seen in over 9 month.... ppl leave for many reason... one of them is because lack of interest, other is the game takes too much of ppls time and also lack of events by staff members....

I still think that the biggest reason for low numbers is the short time before an account is deleted....the second biggest reason is the ongoing bugs that cause expected things to be disabled.
