Hi there, I've just downloaded Obsidian_T3A.exe, and managed to get the install to run under Wine (I'm using Gentoo Linux.) It didn't make a shortcut though, but I went to the install directory and tried "wine obsidian.exe" and got a message with something about the .NET framework.
It's impossible to install that on wine (afaik) and if my windows installation was actually working, I wouldn't want to install it anyway.
So is the .NET framework absolutely necessary to run Obsidian? Or has anyone had any experience getting it to run in Linux?
I've seen the odd site about a Linux client for UO, but they're all circa 2000, and I can't find anythimg more relevant.
Can anyone help? I really wanna play

I got it working with wine a while back. You'll have to bypass the patcher since that is the .NET portion that isn't compatible with wine. You will need to get Cybervics permission for Duo to show you how to bypass.

Cool, thanks for the quick response!
And hello Narcom! I was trying to make a silent return, so don't expect to see McEgg II around for a little while.

I prefer to drink my wine, rather than put my computer on it.

Yes, it's always a bad idea to feed them wine, but as I'm a big wine drinker, and it gives me those puppy dog eyes every time I have a glass, I eventually had to give in. Now the bloody thing is a chronic alcoholic!

Make a win98 or 2k partition. Install win98 or 2k. Edit LILO/Grub and boot it.
Install Obsidian
(heh-heh)
Wine sucks.

I have XP installed to play games on. The problem is, I have to stop doing everything else - music, tv, downloads, chat, etc., and it takes time to reboot constantly. This is fine for something like HalfLife 2 or FEAR, but UO is something I'd like to be able to put a lot of time into, or have at hand for a quick diversion and it's not demanding enough to warrent devoting my entire computer to it.
So sorry to resurrect an old thread, but I really wanna play on the Obsidian Shard again!

Did you ever try doing that? I know from personal experience you can play Obs in linux fine, but you must do as Hydro posted.

CyberVic actually gave me permission to ask Duo, but I don't think Duo ever got my request. So I'll PM again now, and also hope he sees this thread.. (PM plz )
Edit: the only usernames I can find (Duo, Duo Maxwell) have 0 total posts... Maybe that's why he never got my message. Am I missing somehting?
