Well, a race char that can't equip certain weps cant use them for their magic properties (mage/artificer can only use magic items heal, gate in their proficient wep type.
Could we have it so you can use the magic charges without equiping the item?

Short answer: Not really
Long answer: It'd require a decent amount of recoding work, and plus weapons must be used in combat to be recharged, so would promote the 1-use weapons, which is something we've been trying to "fix" to promote people using and recharging their weapons. This promotes an economy as people trade/barter for weaposn they can use when they have weapons they can't. Another suggestion along this line was to have weapons start iwth only 1-2 charges when id'd, and then go to their normal max after recharging(like normal), to encourage people to use them.
